ANDREW JACKSON HEADY

(By Myrl Heady Jeffcoat)

Andrew Jackson Heady was born November 13, 1821 in Hamilton County, Indiana. He was never married. He died on March 7, 1878, at 56 years, 3 months, 24 days. He had one son by Lucretia (Lucy) Pearce. Andrew Jackson Heady had brothers and sisters by the following names: James (b. 1808 Ohio), Lewis, Mark, Vincinet (b. 1814 Ohio), Charles (b.1818 Ohio), Thomas (b. 1818 Indiana, Perry (b. 1826 Indiana), Mary, Elizabeth, and Sara Ann.

Lucretia (Lucy) Pearce evidently brought Alfred Tennyson Heady to Andrew Jackson Heady when he was a boy of about one year of age. She apparently said, "He’s your’s". Andrew raised Alfred Tennyson Heady as his own. . .and he probably was. . .It would seem unimaginable that any man in 1844 would rear a child from near infancy that was not his. . .especially a "Heady" man.

Andrew Jackson Heady’s father was James Heady, who was born about 1784 and had died before 1830. James Heady married Dorothy Harvey, who was born about 1786 in Massachussets.

*(Note: In the Hamilton County, Indiana Marriage Records there is a Lucy Pearce, who became married to Richard Cox on February 22, 1849. Finding this Lucy Pearce in the Marriage records for that county, in the time frame, leads me to believe that she could likely be the "mother" to our Alfred Tennyson Heady).
