I've learned from lifelong
experience of living through hot Sacramento summers, that when a break
is needed from temps that can reach the 100+ degree range, you can
always head for the coast - an hour and a half away. Last week presented perfect timing to head to the California coast with my daughter and my granddaughter. Temps along the Monterey Peninsula were reaching only into the 70s. Yesterday, I blogged our Salt Water Taffy adventures along California Coastal Highway 1 - between Pacifica and Pismo Beach. Today, I'll touch upon amazing landmarks, attractions and sights, in Monterey. Many places in this spectacular region provide feelings you are walking in the footsteps of historical giants, Junipero Serra, John Steinbeck and others, who imprinted their spirit on the land and waters. Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cannery Row and Fisherman's Wharf are in a few block radius, within the City of Monterey. In addition there is the Presidio of Monterey, which provides a benchmark for Spanish and Mexican history in California during the 1700s. The photos in the slideshow above, focus on Monterey Fisherman's Wharf only. Amazingly, within a few hundred feet, much beauty and unimaginable delight can be provided by the resident seals, otters and sea lions. I found a YouTube video titled "Sea Lion Pups Invade Monterey" which is both entertaining and informative. The wharf also boasts several great restaurants, shops, and excursions for whale watching adventures! Monterey provides a great California getaway destination! Tomorrow, I'll post scenes and attractions along Carmel Valley and beautiful 17 Mile Drive - so stay tuned!
