Old Sacramento - December 2009

Today was a stunningly beautiful day in Sacramento - cold, but beautiful!  A family member flew in from Kansas City for the holidays, and landed on-time at the airport. Shortly thereafter flights throughout the country began to experience delays due to storms now affecting some states.

Before returning home and removing any luggage out of the trunk of the car, we stopped off in Old Sacramento for sight seeing and lunch.  Old Sacramento has delightful shops, stores and several great places to dine; and is decorated wonderfully for the holidays.  We settled on Rio City Café on the Sacramento River, with wonderful views of our city's golden Tower Bridge, and the pyramid shaped Money Store or Ziggurat building residing next to the looming large California State Teachers Retirement System (STRS) building, in the RiverWalk area on the other side of the river.

Rio City Café has been featured several times in "The Best of Sacramento" section of Sacramento Magazine as a premier place for dining.  My son had Jambalaya, and was well pleased.  I was very content with the fish tacos.

For those in the Sacramento area, or for those planning a trip to Sacramento, make certain to include Old Sacramento in your planning.  It's a delightful place to spend several hours!
