Snow Hits Greater Sacramento Area

During the night, a winter snow storm paid a visit to Greater Sacramento, the Foothills and Sierras.  I woke this morning to a light dusting of the white stuff on my front lawn, but that was about all.  However, in a drive up the road 7 miles to Folsom, I began to see more significant signs of the snow which had been forecast by local news weather prognosticators.

The pictures above were taken in the El Dorado Hills, Cameron Park, Shingle Springs area.  These certainly aren't areas we normally see snow.  While driving around I found four grown men in their 40s, who had parked their pickup trucks, to begin a playful snowball fight.  I could hear their raucous laughter all the way to the road.  The cars at the Shingle Springs auto dealership were heavily blanketed in snow.

Folks in the Sierra Nevadas often refer to Sacramentans as "flat landers". . . We aren't accustomed to the white fluffy stuff, like our rough and tumble mountain counterparts are.  There were numerous car pileups, as drivers grappled with road conditions they don't normally experience.

I admit that I find snow in our part of the world very enchanting!  The last time we had a storm dump snow of this magnitude was December of 1976.
