Nestled
comfortably in the Santa Ynez Valley of Santa Barbara County, is the
little Danish City of Solvang.
For a little taste of old fashioned Denmark in the middle of California, Solvang
is an enchanted place to visit.
In 2011, the little city will celebrate its Centennial.
It was Founded originally on 11,000 acres from a Mexican land grant to
several Danish educators, who came to the area while escaping harsh
Midwestern winters. Solvang is Danish for "sunny
field."
If pastries are your delight, you will find the town bakeries very
special. Solvang hosts several great restaurants, cafes, shops and
activities, in Danish style buildings, to provide a feeling of having
traveled across waters to visit this enchanted place.
Around the little city, you can find statues of Hans
Christian Andersen and the famous Little
Mermaid. Located near Solvang
is one of the California Mission
Santa Ines.
