There are times when I switch the
ignition of my car, and have no idea where I will journey before driving
back into the garage.
Nearly always Saturday morning finds me at the local farmer's market,
which congregates in a local shopping center parking lot.
Sacramento has been experiencing morning fog these last few days.
I admit the dismal looking mist can sometimes make me feel a tad
melancholy. But here's the thing about Sacramento - In
addition to all the amazing activities and attractions that go on in our
fair city, we are blessed to be dwelling in a virtual cradle of amazing
sites and opportunities within a 100 mile radius of home. Do you
like seafood and salt air? We are a mere 89 miles from San
Francisco and the Bay Area. If it's mountains and lakes you
prefer, we are less than a 100 miles to Lake Tahoe. Are you
addicted to epicurean delights and fine wines? It's only an hour
away, or 60 miles, to the glorious Napa Sonoma Wine Country. You
name it, and we have it either in our city, or a delightfully easy drive
away.
There is also another little fact about living in this cradle of ours -
If we are fogged in and need a little therapeutic sunshine, we can
travel a few miles up highway 50 or highway 80 and kiss the sun.
Cameron Park is approximately 25 miles or so east on highway 50, and you
will nearly always climb out of the fog somewhere between El Dorado
Hills and Cameron Park.
Driving east on highway 80, the fog line hits around Newcastle, or 30
minutes from our city.
After leaving the marketplace this morning, my foot found rest on the
accelerator traveling through El Dorado Hills, Cameron Park, on into
Placerville, and ultimately ending up with magnificent snow covered
sights at Lake Tahoe.
Even at lake's edge, folks stood in awe of the grandeur of the beauty
created from winter majesty - so different from that of summer.
